Melanee “Mel” Brown
is a Houston-born, Atlanta-based photographer whose work explores memory, family, and the ways photographs shape our understanding of identity and belonging.
Working across documentary, portraiture, and conceptual image-making, she uses photography, archival materials, and self-portraiture to examine lineage, re-memory, and the emotional landscapes that connect generations.
Brown received her Master of Fine Arts in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her recent body of work, Burney Road., traces her maternal lineage through family photographs and personal narratives, considering the archive as a living space where memory and healing coexist. Across her practice, she is interested in the quiet rituals of everyday life and the photographs that preserve them.
Her work has been exhibited nationally, including at Atlanta Photography Group, Emma D. Aviation Museum, and Houston Center for Photography.
