B&W Film

Chinatown, LA

Recently I’ve been doing most of my day to day shooting with film cameras. Film has forced me to slow down and be more intentional of what I'm taking a picture of. Unlike digital photography (where you can take the picture 100 times until you get it right), film cameras only have so many exposures so you have to make sure your composition and lighting are A1. Depending on what type of film you use, you only get about 24-36 images before you have to load up another roll. With that being said, I've found that I'm much more focused and in-tune with the story that I want to tell in each photograph.

I took a trip to Cali & packed a roll of Ilford black and white film that I was dying to use. When I tried B&W film before I lost the whole roll because I didn't load the film in correctly. On this particular day, I packed my Canon AE-1, loaded up my film *correctly* and set off to explore Chinatown with a couple of friends. The photos were beautifully developed at Canary Photo Lab once I got back home to Houston, TX. I really love the grain and how the lighting looks in these images; I'm definitely going to be using waayyy more B&W film in the future. The images below are from that day.
